Setting Goals for Small Businesses
Do you set new year resolutions for your business? What about goals? Intentions?
It doesn't matter where you are in your business journey, every business needs goals. Otherwise, we just doing random things with no real finish line to work towards. I like a good mix of big, scary goals and small, maybe not as exciting but much needed, goals. Setting goals for small businesses.
It's super important to make sure whatever goal you set, is a SMART goal - that is Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, and Time-Bound.
βLet's do some examples.
I will market my product better.
vs.
I will market my best selling candle across more platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok by doing at least 2 videos or reels a week, as well as engaging with 10 new people/accounts a day.
I want to make lots of money.
vs.
I want to profit $2,000 each month beginning in February 2022.
See the difference? We'd take it further to expand upon that goal by writing what steps we would need to take in order to achieve that. That could include:
setting aside 5 additional hours a week to work on your business
showing up on social media 3x/week (rather than not at all)
cutting back on business expenses that are eating into your profits
hiring help in an area that is not your zone of genius
increase prices and thus increase your profit margins
reach out to 10 people each week for business collaborations
increasing (or starting) email marketing to your customers
Then, you'd want to break down each bullet point into specific, actionable steps to take.
It's like putting a puzzle together. What is more efficient? Looking at all the puzzle pieces and working to put them together or creating smaller piles with the edge pieces grouped together, particular colors or signage, or each specific character. It's more effective to break out a big puzzle into manageable pieces and then put all those sections together to complete that goal, er, I mean puzzle.
Here's the hard part though.
Being your own boss means that the only person to hold yourself accountable is YOU.
So if you don't set any goals, no one is coming for ya. No one will write you up.
The only person that will be impacted is you.
Now, I have some big goals for myself and Sub SupportHer in 2022! And no, I can't share them with you just yet. (all in due time, my dear, all in due time.)
β
But, here's my challenge to you.
I challenge you to set 1 goal for your business and share it with one person. That I KNOW you can do!
Need someone to share your goal with?
(Pick me! Pick me!)
Send me an email or message me on IG and let me know what your 1 goal is. Don't worry, I'm not going to bombard you with questions and plans and all that nerve-wracking stuff. But, you will have shared your goal and put it out in the universe to start working on it.
You can do this! I'm cheering you on!
